Ronald and Virginia Bennett
On May 4, 2010, Hope for Life honored our volunteers with a dessert night in the home of Verlin and Charlotte Martin. The theme was Hearts that Serve, Hands that Care.
Each volunteer was recognized regardless of how little or much they do to serve our chronically ill patients and their support to the family members of those with those illnesses. Each volunteer was given a special recognition lapel pin displaying hands in a circle and the event's theme words.
Special recognition was awarded to our 2009 Volunteer of the Year. However, as last year, the award could not be given to one person in particular. So, the award went to a husband and wife team, Ron and Ginny Bennett.
Ron and Ginny came on board with Hope for Life in the fall of 2008. After being recruited by their good friends, Jeff and Carolyn Fields. Ron and Ginny jumped in full force to ministry at Elkhart Rehabiliation Center. There they visit the residents every Friday afternoon.
Ron ministers to the men and Ginny visits with the women. With their Bibles and encouraging reading material they go room-to-room, visiting, listening, reading and praying with the residents. They both have had the priviledge of leading some of the residents to the Lord. Ron has also brought clothes from his own closet to help cloth some of the men there who needed something new to wear. Ginny bakes sugar-free cookies each Thursday at her home, and then indivudally bags a couple of cookes per baggie to share with the residents. You can imagine how welcome she is when she enters the door!
Not only does Ron volunteer at Elkhart Rehab, but visits men who struggle with chronic illness in their home or in the hospital. At times, Ron has taken some of his patients to their doctor appointments or to the store. Ron trys to be available to his patients as much as possible. He demonstrates Christ to them in his words and actions.
In October 2009, Ron joined the Hope for Life governing Board of Directors. As a member-at-large, he assists the other board members in making vital decision for the ministry.
This couple understands the struggles, difficulities and hardships that come with chronic illness. It is through that understanding that they are able to bring "Jesus" to so many of our patients. They truly have "Hearts that Serve and Hands that Care."
Thank you, Ron and Ginny.
